Why am I receiving my water authority tax assessment so late and is this allowed?
We are sending out water authority tax assessments later than usual. This is due to ICT problems. These have now been resolved. Unfortunately, it did cause delays. We are catching up on those now. We understand this can be quite inconvenient for you and apologise in advance.
Until when may we send a water authority tax assessment?
We are allowed to send the water authority tax assessment up to 3 years after January 1 of the tax year. This is determined by law. For example, we must send the 2022 water authority tax assessment by 1 January 2025.
Maximum of 5 years to collect money
What if you do not pay the water authority tax assessment? We will send you a payment reminder. After sending the reminder, we have up to 5 years to make sure we receive the money. That too is stated in the law.
Two examples:
- You receive the 2016 water authority tax assessment in December 2018. You do not pay the water authority tax assessment and therefore you will receive a payment reminder in April 2021. You will not hear from us after that. We have until April 2026 to make sure we receive the money.
- You receive the 2019 water authority tax assessment in the spring of 2019. You do not pay the water authority tax assessment and therefore you will receive a reminder in December 2019. You will not hear from us after that. We have until December 2024 to make sure we receive the money.
